The National Kidney Foundation is the agency of last resort for people with kidney disease in our state. And sadly, the demand for our services continues to grow. In 2018, we launched the Hero to Hero Campaign as a way to fund our vital patient aid services, and help create new programs that would improve the lives of those we serve.
Celebrity, Humorist and former Arizona resident, Erma Bombeck, was a huge supporter of the National Kidney Foundation of Arizona before succumbing to the disease in 1996. Her three children have taken up the mantle, and serve as the co-chairs of the Hero to Hero Campaign. You can learn more about why they felt so passionately about this effort here.
With their hard work, and the generosity of Heroes like you, we are so close to reaching our goal. And along the way, we have been able to accomplish some amazing things.
Because of the Hero to Hero Campaign we:
- Created Camp Kidney, a camp just for Arizona children battling kidney disease. It is now in its 6th year.
- Now provide 100% of the transportation needs of our patients needing to get to and from dialysis.
- Host at least 4 free public health screenings every year in some of Arizona’s most underserved communities, to try and slow the spread of this disease and detect problems in patients as early as possible.
- Empower Arizonans to be advocates for themselves, educating patients on how best to find a kidney transplant, or consider becoming a kidney donor.
